"Smamit Overet Lemakom Rachok"
I have written a children’s book in Hebrew for preschool to Year 3 children, inspired by both my personal and professional experience of relocation. The book draws on playful symbolism, in a way that is reminiscent of play therapy, and uses colourful illustrations to help children understand and process complex emotions.
The story focuses on relocation, but it is also relevant to other types of transitions within a country. It is told from the perspective of a gecko who moves to a new and unfamiliar place and has to cope with the fears, uncertainty, and emotional challenges that come with change. The aim is to help children going through similar experiences feel more understood, supported, and less alone.
In addition, the book offers guidance for parents on how to support children through such transitions. This includes suggestions such as allowing time for goodbyes, offering children a sense of control where possible, and helping them manage uncertainty by acknowledging and validating their emotions.
